Su padre era de Santacara y su madre de Olaldea. El padre llegó a Villava con 7 años, después de enviudar la madre de éste. Su madre empezó a trabajar con 15 años en la casa de su hermana y más tarde se mudó a Burlada. Es el tercero de seis hermanos.
