La serrería fue fundada por Domingo Elizondo, siendo el nombre de la empresa El Irati. Cuando fue inaugurada, contaba Cayetano con seis o siete años. No solo se empleó a gente de Aoiz, sino que dio trabajo a vecinos de Longuida, Ekai, Villaveta, Artieda, Urroz, etc. Uno de Urroz, por ejemplo, era el que se encargaba del caballo encargado de los transportes.
