Modernisation is an actus imperfectus (Habermas 1997). Empowered by natural sciences modernisation causes huge losses in the "life-world" and it could be argued that the vocation of human sciences is to compensate these losses (Marquard 1991). According to Marquard, this urgency to balance the losses of modernisation evokes three kinds of compensatory narratives advanced by human sciences: preserving stories, orienting stories, sensitizing stories. Latin American dances have been the bearers of the sensitizing both in corporeal and poetic terms. Passion was the dominating message of merchandising Latin American dances to the rest of the world. Besides, Latin American dances were a part of life world of local communities that made their life meaningful, in this sense making them essential part of orientation stories. And finally, as a consequence of the Convention of the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), Latin American dances (2008-2009) have become a part of preservation stories.
