The article presents the current status and henceforth task in the vitalization and functions ofthe programs regarding the archive of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Center (hereafter,NIHC). In general, an archive is an asset management system of the legacy and heritage ofthe past for public to use today and in the future, and is an important asset preserving thecharacteristics of the culture and arts, including changes and creativity. However, despiteits significance and meaningful nature, the effort exerted thus far has not been effectivelyaccomplished toward systematizing and maintaining the existing collections due to the lack ofexperience. In addition, NIHC has only focused on recognizing the intangible cultural heritage, prioritizing those items over any activity of collecting material items and documents, and infact, because of the recording and collecting projects which have been undertaken for quitesome time, there is an ever-increasing accumulation of items. However, although still in the initial stage, the core function and role of the NIHC is now focusedon building and developing the archive system. As a government organization partnered withthe Cultural Heritage Administration (hereafter, CHA), the NIHC has gathered vast materialsfrom the CHA. The NIHC members have been working closely with the personnel of the humanheritage researchers, as well as those from a number of civil and foreign organizations, thusgaining greater experience. For an effective collection process, the NIHC has currently been managing a “bank-typearchive” and “Wiki-type achieve”. Despite our efforts, we are still faced with problems anddifficulties, such as compensation norms to donors, quality of the collections, copyright issues, and the establishment of internal regulations and rules. The first step we have undertaken is tosystematize the materials collected from the CHA, aiming to gain experience and knowledge, aswell as creating manuals and catalogues that will provide a valuable and practical environmentthat the public can trust.
