Gangneung Danoje Festival, an outstanding Korean cultural heritage well-known worldwide for its artistry and creativity, is thought to have continuous growth. This festival enjoys a variety of cultural events as well as cultural preservation in tradition. Thus, developing clothing for a modern style and the heritage of traditional costumes for the Gangneung Danoje Festival is important. This study aims to reinterpret the costume with a modern sense for the Gangneung Danoje Festival and regional cultural development. This Gangneung Danoje Festival's progress is critical to developing the clothing in harmony with modern features on top of unique cultural spirits in it. This work focuses on the harmony of the region's characteristics and the female's modern sense. Modern woman costumes are restructured by combining many elements found in the tradition of the Gangneung Danoje Festival. Motif costumes used for modern women are classified into different codes: ceremony uniform, warrior uniform, and Gangneung Masquerade dance. Various components of traditional clothing are combined. Modern woman's costumes applied for the Gangneung Danoje Festival are divided into blouses, jackets, one-piece dresses, and pants. Two samples of each category were designed, and one of each category was produced. Through this study, it was possible to confirm the excellence of the Gangneung Danoje, one of the world's cultural heritage. In addition, it is expected to contribute to the modern development of traditional culture and revitalize local culture and creative industries by developing clothing with traditional and contemporary elements.
